KOTA TINGGI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here has discovered a new tactic employed by foreign fishermen to fish in local waters – disguising their vessels as local boats. This discovery was made after the agency detained two trawlers some 22 nautical miles off Tanjung Sedili that were caught fishing without a valid fishing license on Tuesday afternoon. Tanjung Sedili MMEA director Captain Amran Daud said the two fishing trawlers, which originated from Vietnam, were emblazoned with Malay names, namely Azam Baru 1 and Azam Baru 2. Amran said some of the crew members also did not carry valid identification documents. He said all the catches, along with the two fishing trawlers and fishing equipment worth around RM450,000, were seized.
