MGR Vijayan murder case: All seven accused found guilty, get life term


CHENNAI: Eight years after the sensational murder of Vijayan alias MGR Vijayan , a relative of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M G Ramachandran, a sessions court in Chennai on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to all the seven accused. During the investigation, more than 70 witnesses were examined, and a chargesheet was filed against seven accused.Driver Venkatesh was the lone witness to the murder. They then "brutally attacked" Vijayan who died on the spot.The Abiramapuram police initially registered a case, which was later transferred to the CB-CID. The guilty included the niece of MGR - - Banu.Vijayan was married to Banu's sister Sudha.Prosecution said the murder was committed due to sibling rivalry between Sudha and Banu over MGR's properties.Principal district judge G Jayachandran found all the seven guilty of the June 4, 2008 murder and rejected their claims of innocence on Wednesday.They will all be immediately taken to the Central Prison at Puzhal here and one of them may be moved to Vellore on Thursday subject to availability of prison space.According to prosecution, on June 4, 2008, around 8.45pm, Vijayan was forced to stop his car and step out on Turnbulls Road Extension near ABM Avenue in Nandanam here, after the accused dashed their car against his vehicle.
