MCG alleges tax document forgery, cops to probe


GURUGRAM: A zonal taxation officer of the MCG has filed a complaint with the police after 100 cases of forgery were found in documents submitted by residents for processing of case properties and correction proformas.Explaining the fraud, the zonal taxation officer-4, Dinesh Kumar said if some wrong details are submitted to MCG for processing of property tax, a correction proforma along with relevant documents need to be given to MCG. Then, depending on the amount in question, an MCG official verifies and issues an order to the third party agency responsible for updating these details on a private website. For instance, for issues involving amounts more than Rs 100,000, the joint commissioner has to issue an order while for issues involving more than Rs 2 lakh, the order has to be issued by the commissioner.The orders which were found with the agency had forged signatures, and the corrections were made in the private website.Kumar said the names of people whose documents have been forged have been given to police. "We've given police all required documents and it is up to them to find out who is behind the forgery," he said.The police lodged an FIR under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the pourpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the IPC at the Sadar police station on Saturday.
