JOHOR BARU: Johor needs more professionals, semi-skilled and skilled workers so that locals would be able to take advantage of the rapid economic development in the state. Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said economic growth would be meaningless if Johoreans were sidelined from participating and benefiting from it. This year, the emphasis is on digital technology as the digital economy is expected to contribute about 18% of Malaysia’s gross domestic product by 2020. Johor Entrepreneurial Development Centre executive director Hahasrin Hashim said the first edition of Johor Mahir last year focused on vocational skills. “Johor Mahir Tech aims to encourage locals to learn skills needed in the future,” he said.
