The shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando this week goes down as the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. A mass shooting is defined as when four or more people are shot in the same incident. U.S. President Barack Obama called the latest slaughter a “sobering reminder” that an attack on any American is an attack “on all of us.”According to the non-profit Gun Violence Archive, it was the 139th mass shooting in the U.S. this year. Guns have been used to kill 6,037 people in the U.S. so far in 2016, the archive said. Gunman Omar Mateen took 49 lives at the nightclub with firearms, including an assault rifle, bought legally before he was shot dead by a police tactical squad.
