Lyall Bay Surf Club member Nunzio Unsworth, 8, gets ready to hit the water at the official opening of the new clubhouse on Sunday. Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club's new clubhouse opened on Sunday – 111 years ago to the day that the club was formed, and about a century since New Zealand’s first surf lifesaving patrols began on the adjacent beach. The new building was officially opened by club patron Sir Lockwood Smith and Marilyn Moffatt, Surf Life Saving New Zealand President and Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club Life Member.
