The earlier lowest temperature in the last five years was recorded as 5.4 degrees Celsius at Sri Mangal in January, 2012. According to a Met Office forecast for 24 hours that commenced from 6:00am Saturday, a severe cold wave has been sweeping over the districts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions. The lowest temperature in Dhaka division was recorded as 5.9 degree Celsius at Tangail yesterday. The lowest temperature in the country’s history was recorded as 2.8 degrees Celsius in 1968, also in Sri Mangal. “Yesterday, a minimum temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chittagong city, while the second lowest temperature of 10.8 Celsius was also recorded on the island Sandwip upazila at the same time,” added the Forecasting Officer.
