KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man was killed in a freak accident along Mile 1, Jalan Segama in Lahad Datu on Saturday (Feb 8) morning. The 64-year-old was walking along the road when a tyre from a truck came loose and hit him around 10.30am. Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said the man died on the spot due to severe head injuries. He said the truck, which was transporting oil palm fruit bunches, was travelling from Sandakan to Lahad Datu when the accident happened. The victim's body has been sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem.
