To that end, the Election Commission’s decision to launch online and digital NID services is an excellent and timely initiative. Not only will this help keep a check on the current pandemic situation during the enforced lockdown, but above all, it makes the procedure far simpler for the general population as well. This often detracts people from re-applying for these important documents, particularly if they have lost or misplaced their NID cards. Bangladesh adopted the “Digital Bangladesh” manifesto as part of its identity over a decade ago. While we have certainly made strides in our bid to fulfill that vision, we still have some ways to go, and must continue to adopt digital solutions.
