Longford may seek deviation from ban on joint-captains

Longford GAA may seek a deviation from Central Council from the rule that now prevents joint captains from accepting a cup in an official presentation. It appeared to catch some delegates by surprise but with no vote, Longford delegate Peter O’Reilly, the county’s secretary, was one of the few voices that took issue with it. O’Reilly has outlined that for independent teams at underage level, where clubs merge because they don’t have the numbers to field on their own, having joint-captains can be important for parity. In five of the competitions, an independent team won it,” he said. I will be going to Central Council looking for a deviation for underage independent teams.
