The emerald ash borer has been chewing through trees from Maine to Colorado for about two decades. The emerald ash borer came from Asia and was first spotted in the United States in 2002. George Robinson, a University at Albany biology professor and a member of the state Invasive Species Advisory Committee, doesn’t think the ash trees will be entirely wiped out.
