Future at stake: A settlement of plantation workers at Thiruvambadi which has been included in the suggested area for the airport project. People of the region are of the view that pro-industrialists who battle for the project are not sensitive to the concerns of local citizens. It claimed that a new airport in Kozhikode district is a vital requirement, as the international airport at Karipur faces serious development hurdles, thanks to long-pending land acquisition issues. Chakkunni said industrialists who campaigned for the project would never support the evacuation of landholders or residents. “We will support the project only if evictees get deserving compensation and standard accommodation,” he added.
