A road safety poster competition was organised within the Athlone Garda Policing District in a bid to highlight the issues with primary school children. An Garda Síochána and Westmeath County Council are committed to raising awareness of road safety issues. Garda Kieran Dempsey of the Community Policing Unit of Athlone Garda Station recently organised a road safety poster competition for 5th and 6th class students within the Athlone Garda Policing District which demonstrated a high level of awareness of road safety among the pupils. A presentation to the winners took place in Athlone Civic Centre on Tuesday last with Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr Aengus O'Rourke. Congratulations to the winners Pranaya Padmanaban, Cornamaddy NS, Jamie Raftery, Dean Kelly NS, Athlone, Brendán Galvin, Drumraney NS, Layla Coyne St Peters NS Athlone and Amy Kearney, Scoil Eoin Naofa, Ballymore.
