Local factory to halve Ethiopia’s edible oil import – New Business Ethiopia


Built in Amhara region, a new edible oil factory from sunflower and soya bean is set to halve the import of Ethiopia. The factory has production capacity of 1,400 tons of cooking oil, which can cover 60 percent of the total demand of Ethiopia, according to Eng. So far, the construction of the sheds is completed and installations of machineries is underway, according to the report. The total investment of the new edible oil factory is close to 2.1 billion birr (around $73 million). It is also indicated that the factor will be using sunflower and soya beans grown in Ethiopia.
