Rush’s former club opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle on Boxing Day while reigning champions Manchester City slipped up for the second game in a row, this time away to Leicester in a 2-1 defeat. Jurgen Klopp’s men remain undefeated and have conceded just seven times in 19 games. Much has been made of the Reds’ resoluteness and Rush reckons the attack and defence is just as good if not better than the one that enjoyed league success in 1990.
