What if the mob that stormed the Capitol had encountered members of Congress or Vice President Mike Pence unimpeded? What if they’d used their numbers to overwhelm security protecting the legislators? What if the armaments and explosives found on some protesters and in the city had been deployed in the building? Had he not riled up the crowd that morning and encouraged them to head to the Capitol, far fewer probably would have. But all of those things happened, and there was a critical mass of fury that poured over the Capitol Police and into the building.
