Sarah Searle said her husband, 54, had been fishing on that beach all his life and had never seen a live sea snake. It is believed to be a yellow bellied sea snake - a spate of which have been found recently around Taranaki. A Northland man was surprised to find a sea snake on his morning walk along the beach - and even more surprised to find it was still alive.
