During the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Wilson Kiprugut Chumo, struck Kenya’s first ever Olympic medal when he won an 800m bronze medal. Philip Waruinge made history in 1968 after becoming the first Kenyan who was not a runner to win an Olympic medal. Pamela Jelimo was Kenyan's first woman to win an Olympic Gold medal in her 800m race in the Beijing Olympics in 2008. It took another 12 years before Pauline Konga became the first Kenyan woman to win a silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
