Lisa Blackburn named deputy mayor of Halifax

HALIFAX—Lisa Blackburn is the city’s new deputy mayor. Halifax regional council elected Blackburn to the post on Tuesday. First elected in 2016, Blackburn, a former journalist, represents District 14 – Middle/Upper Sackville on council. The deputy mayor is responsible for filling in for Mayor Mike Savage, chairing regional council meetings when he’s absent and speaking at events when he can’t make it. It would typically last one year, but with an election scheduled for mid-October 2020, Blackburn will hold the job for about 11 months.
