more-inAfter three years, liquor prices are to be increased in Tamil Nadu by ₹10 a quarter (180 ml) bottle. The State witnessed a hike in liquor prices in November 2014. Ordinary liquor (a quarter bottle), which is now sold at ₹88 will bear a price tag of ₹100. On an average, the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) sells liquor worth about ₹70 crore in weekdays. In 2016-17, the revenue earned through liquor sale was ₹26,995 crore: Excise revenue ₹6,248 crore and VAT (sales tax) ₹20, 747 crore.
