NewsThe limit imposed on the sale, transportation and possession of foreign liquor has been increased up to 80 litres from the previous amount of 7.5 litres, the Excise Department said. Issuing a statement, the Department noted that the regulation would be imposed on all liquor stores and the general public across the country. “The limit had been increased after considering the grievances of the people,” Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasingha told Times Online. Mr. Kumarasinghe recalled that the previous limit of 7.5 litres had been imposed in 2015, to combat the smuggling of foreign liquor, since there were no limits imposed since 1913.
