Lily Cole has defended her appointment as a “creative partner” in events marking the bicentenary of the birth of Emily Brontë. The actress and model, who has a double first from Cambridge, has been attacked because she is not herself an author. The writer Nick Holland quit the Brontë Society in protest. Miss Cole, 30, is making a short film about Heathcliff, anti-hero of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, to mark the anniversary for the Brontë Parsonage Museum at Haworth in West Yorkshire.
