Liberia: Rights Activist ‘Collapses’ During Hunger Strike Protest in Demand for Pres. Weah’s Asset Declaration

Monrovia - Activist Archie Ponpon, on the third day of his hunger strike, on Friday had to be rushed to hospital by an ambulance of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Friday, April 6, when he started convulsing. He thinks that his peaceful protest will force President George Manneh Weah and his Cabinet Ministers to declare their assets. Asset declaration for a selected group of officials of government, including the President, is enshrined in the law. At first nurses with the Liberia National Police were reluctant in carrying him to the hospital without any family member present. After the nurse placed the call, Ponpon was placed in the ambulance and was taken to the hospital.
