The Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has stressed the need to enact a law to protect whistle blowers and witnesses in Liberia. James Verdier stated that protection of whistle blowers and witnesses is critical to the fight against corruption in the public and private sectors. He noted that the fight against corruption will not be effective when people with the relevant information in corruption cases are not protected under the law. He indicated that some people are scared to release information about corrupt practices in the public and private sectors because there is no legal instrument to protect them. The LACC official emphasized that the passage of the Whistle Blower Act will go a long way in preventing corrupt practices in Liberia, noting that if Liberia should be a corruption free society witnesses should be protected.
