Seven years ago, David Cameron had the likes of John Barnes at Downing Street and pledged to “crush” racism. That banana-skin thrown at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the North London Derby saw the problem, forced out of the spotlight, seep back to the surface. As did the vicious, vile invective hurled at Raheem Sterling during Chelsea’s game against Manchester City a week later. The figures produced by anti-racism body Kick It Out to proved racism is once again on the rise. And the right-thinking Chelsea fans forced to come together to try to drive out the elements insistent on singing those derogatory songs including the Y word.
