OLYMPICS — men’s FIELD HOCKEY Monday, August 15, 2016 Leones advance to semifinalsArgentine players and part of the coaching staff celebrate after reaching the Olympic semifinals. RIO DE JANEIRO — Argentina was breathing rarefied air in Olympic men’s field hockey yesterday after reaching the medal rounds. It’s Argentina’s men first time in the semifinals in 11 Olympics. The Argentine men, who have long played in the shadow of their far more successful women’s team, defeated Spain 2-1 on a Juan Gilardi penalty stroke just 87 seconds from fulltime. Their joy was unrestrained at the Olympic Hockey Stadium, as they jumped in a huddle or leaped into each other’s arms.
