The Legislative Council’s Finance Committee has approved HK$6.4 billion in funding for the fourth round of the government’s anti-epidemic fund after seven hours of deliberation. A total of 32 lawmakers voted in support of the funding, while Cheng Chung-tai of localist party Civic Passion voted against it. Three lawmakers from the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Aron Kwok Wai-keung, Michael Luk Chung-hung and Alice Mak Mei-kuen abstained from voting. The government had said the money will go to those industries being forced to close under the tightened social distancing measures. A sum of HK$5.5 billion will help the sectors most affected by the latest social distancing measures, such as restaurants, gyms, beauty parlors and cinemas.
