A politics lecturer has said there was misleading information which was confusing some voters, putting them off exercising their democratic right. A Maori politics lecturer at Massey University claims some Maori have been given "misinformation" by staff at early polling booths. The Electoral Commission has confirmed it is taking the complaint seriously. "This is completely unacceptable, and something the Electoral Commission and Chief Electoral Officer need to rectify immediately." Some Maori electors also claimed they had been ignored by those responsible for hearing complaints.
