Now to this one, where we deal with a future contract for John Tavares, the icing rule, European goaltending and everything under the rainbow. I don’t think any team will pay Tavares $11 million (U.S.) again, but I imagine he’s still more than $3 million. For four years, the CHL even banned European goalies from the import draft, to try to give Canadian and American goalies more playing time. NHL teams drafted 20 goalies in 2022, and more than half were European (10 off European teams and a Russian playing in the QMJHL).
