Leaf goalie depth tested with Andersen day to day

The Maple Leafs started the year with a depth chart of Frederik Andersen in net, backed up by seasoned NHLers Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard. For Monday night at least, the starter was Garret Sparks and his understudy was 24-year-old unknown Eamon McAdam. Andersen was at the morning skate as the Leafs readied for the Los Angeles Kings, but Sparks, who had played once this year in a 7-6 shootout win in Chicago, was in the home net. Head coach Mike Babcock was terse in his reasoning for the switch, but as the day wore on, it leaked that Andersen was hurt. When McAdam was officially recalled at 5 p.m. from the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers, the Leafs announced Andersen had a knee issue and was day-to-day.
