Hastings District Council, which manages the gardens, said fire damaged the caretaker flat, theatre and craft studios owned by the Keirunga Gardens Arts and Crafts Society. More than 50 firefighters worked to control the blaze late Tuesday night as it spread through the historic Keirunga Gardens complex. Some of the art work that was stored in the damaged building has been saved." The botanical gardens, which cover a hill in the Hawke's Bay town, also house a miniature train circuit, theatre and spaces for arts and crafts.
