Land encroachment by Saraburi monastery probed

The raids at Wat Pa Chana Jai in tambon Nong Yang Suea of Muak Lek district followed a complaint by the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) that a group of monks had encroached on ALRO land and purchased plots from local residents, amassing about 2,000 rai. The first location, the main monastery compound, occupied 13 rai of ALRO land. Participants in the operation on Wednesday included Pol Maj Gen Jruykiat Pankaeo, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau; Pol Maj Gen Anek Taosupap, commander of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division; and Phumwisan Kasemsuk, secretary-general of the Public Sector Anti Corruption Commission. Investigators gather at Wat Wa Chana Jai in Saraburi following complaints the monastery encroached on land-reform areas. If wrongdoing is confirmed, the agencies will lodge formal complaints with police to proceed with legal action, said Pol Maj Gen Anek.
