Lacoste, Under the Capri Sun - News Summed Up

Lacoste, Under the Capri Sun

While the United States Open was being played in Queens, Lacoste was staging a fashion show in Manhattan. Lacoste is now and forever tennis-affiliated (René Lacoste won the men’s singles trophy in the U.S. National Championships, the predecessor to the Open, in 1926 and 1927), but for its New York Fashion Week shows, it tends to approach the subject lightly, not literally. PhotoFrom the notes on each seat, you learn how Lacoste’s designer, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, had been dreaming of Villa Malaparte, the Italian modern masterpiece on Capri made famous by Jean-Luc Godard’s “Contempt” (1963). It did look kind of sexy, and kind of comfy, which is a tricky pair of propositions to balance. Lacoste is no less a heritage brand than Champion.
