The Te Huia passenger rail service between Hamilton and Auckland is expected to resume in late January (file photo). But a lack of transparency around Te Huia’s financial performance has riled some city politicians and prompted an assurance that its books will be opened up to the public by Christmas. His comments drew a personal assurance from councillor Ewan Wilson that elected members will receive Te Huia’s financial statements within 14 days. The new Te Huia service includes an extra daytime return service to Hamilton, a slightly later morning departure from Waikato, and new family passes. Hamilton deputy mayor Geoff Taylor said the new Te Huia service into The Strand gives him “real hope”.
