Severe thunderstorms, during which rainfall could reach 35mm an hour, were most likely on Saturday morning. Elsewhere in the country, Saturday's forecast looks sunny for much of the South Island, with Canterbury likely to be warmest. Monday will see an increase of cloud in the North Island and drizzly spells in the Far North, as well as in the Horowhenua and Kapiti regions.
