MANILA, Philippines – Instead of holding another tryout, the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) shifted gear and opened the training camp for the members of the national pool Tuesday at Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila. LVPI vice president Peter Cayco formally introduced Shaq Delos Santos as the new head coach of the national team that will see action in the 18th Asian Games and the AVC Asia Cup this year. “Time is running out so we decided to end the tryouts and open the training camp, instead,” said Cayco, who was tasked by the federation to oversee the formation of the national team. Cayco added that those who failed to make the cut should still make themselves available to give options outside the 14 players. “We intend to keep the pool so it will be easier for us to pick players whenever there’s an international tournament.”
