Israel opening nature museum in July amid religious opposition

Tel Aviv, Israel — After decades of planning and delays, Israel is opening the doors of a new national natural history museum in the city of Tel Aviv, a facility that aims to increase scientific education despite religious opposition to the theory of evolution. But the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History places special emphasis on the flora and fauna indigenous to the Holy Land and Middle East. “Natural history museums record nature, study nature, and also share their knowledge and treasures with the general public,” Dayan said. The museum doesn’t shy away from pointing the finger at humanity for its destructive role in the natural world. The museum’s curator defended the decision, saying the religious students otherwise would not have had any exposure to natural history whatsoever.
