Qualification to the AYC will see the Black Meteors participate at the tournament which is scheduled to take place in Egypt. Ghana has failed to qualify to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations on two occasions since the tournament was founded in 2011. With the new additional features added to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, teams who reach the semi final stage automatically seal a spot at next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. The maiden edition of the U23 AFCON was won by Gabon, Nigeria won the last edition of the tournament in 2015 after defeating Algeria 2-1 in the final.
