LHC admits petitions against killing stray dogs with firearms, poison

LAHORE : The Lahore High Court has accepted a petition for hearing challenging the use of firearms and poison to eliminate stray dogs. The petition was filed by Advocate Izzat Fatima, and the court issued notices to the Punjab government, the Secretary of Livestock, and the Secretary of Local Government. The petitioner argued that the government’s operations to kill stray dogs were endangering citizens’ lives, citing an incident in Khanewal where a young girl was injured by a bullet during a dog-killing operation. The petition further emphasized that using firearms and toxic substances in residential areas posed significant risks. The petitioner called for the court to order the enforcement of this policy and halt the harmful practices of shooting and poisoning dogs.
