The death toll rose to 49 on the morning of Saturday after three more bodies were recovered from the ruble. The Star reports that Incident Commander Pius Masai said the operation was closed at 1800 hours on its 8th day. After more than a week of non stop work, rescue operation at the collapsed building in Huruma has officially been called off on Saturday, May 7. At around 1800 hours we officially closed the operation though the site is still closed for down sizing,” the newspaper quoted Masai. “The animals retrieved alive are giving us hopes of finding someone alive,” Masai said at some point during the rescue operation.
