Kurinjimala sanctuary to be maintained at 3,200 hectares


more-inThe State Cabinet on Tuesday decided to maintain the extent of the Kurinjimala sanctuary in Idukki at 3,200 hectares and appoint an IAS officer to settle the title deed issues and fix the boundaries. Landowners would have to remove the trees in titled land, failing which the Collector would take up the responsibility. The planting of acacia and eucalyptus trees in the sanctuary would be banned. The practice of leasing out land for planting trees in revenue land would also be discontinued. Drones would be pressed into service to demarcate forest and titled land within the sanctuary.
