The Telangana irrigation authorities have released 2.69 tmcft water from Palair reservoir to fill the drinking water tanks in Zones 2 and 3 of the Nagarjuna Sagar project in Andhra Pradesh. If this is the drinking water situation, the fate of the farmers is even more worrying. The ayacut under Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal in Telangana is 6.41 lakh acres. The KRMB allocated it 9 tmcft water for irrigation of rabi crop. But no water was allocated for irrigated dry crops in the upland mandals of Krishna, which were known for horticulture crops such as mango.
