"Sagar is a challenging location that is not ideal for a port of this magnitude, the technological feasibility report has revealed. We have scrapped the public-private partnership (PPP) plan and decided that Bhorsagar Port Ltd, a joint venture between the state government (26% equity) and KoPT (74% equity) will create some infrastructure at Sagar for the port. Tajpur, on the other hand, will have a draft of 15 metres once a 17km channel is cut. The bridge and other infrastructure is certainly needed for development of the region and the people of Sagar. We have planned that Sagar port will handle only about 9 million tonnes of cargo in Phase-I.
