Nadal is on eighteen, having seen off the game challenge of Dominic Thiem 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in three hours and one minute of ferocious combat at Roland Garros. He can claim some improvement from the previous year's final, but not enough to suggest that any toppling of Nadal is imminent. He lost in the semi-finals at his Monte Carlo citadel and did not win a title until Rome. Thiem was only to win one point in the first four games of the third, which ended up taking only 24 minutes to complete.
