Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki was named the Senate's deputy speaker after getting 38 votes in the Thursday election. Ledama ole Kina got 17 votes in the exercise that 12 members missed and which did not have spoilt votes. Kindiki and his Narok counterpart were the only applicants for the seat as at Wednesday evening, according to Senate clerk's office. They include Lusaka, majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet Senator), deputy majority leader Fatuma Dullo, majority Whip Susan Kihika and Senators Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Samwel Poghisio (West Pokot) and Mohamed Maalim (Mandera).
