Keyboard conservation warriors aim to open regional branchesMATTHEW TSO/STUFF New Zealand GIS in Conservation chair Parker Jones wants to create regional branches of the group to help build relationships with other conservation groups. New Zealand GIS in Conservation (GiC) provides Geographic Information System (GIS) software which creates maps and puts important data at the fingertips of conservation groups around the country. ALDEN WILLIAMS/FAIRFAX NZ GiC has been helping conservation groups control introduced pests such as possums and rats since 2012. Chair Parker Jones said because conservation groups were spread across the country it made sense to establish regional branches that could more effectively build relationships with stakeholders. Jones encouraged conservations groups to register for the Esri Users Group Regional User Conferences so they can meet with GiC volunteers.
