THE primary suspect behind the death of a mayor in Bohol was killed in an encounter in the province on Wednesday, police said. Emigdio Aparece was killed in a firefight with members of the Bohol Provincial Mobile Force Company and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in Barangay Conception, said Senior Supt. Aparece was the main suspect in the death of Buenavista mayor Ronald Lowell Tirol who was gunned down inside a cockpit arena on May 27. Geñorga said operatives tried to persuade Aparece to surrender but the suspect fired at them, instead, prompting a retaliation that resulted in his death. Tirol was the second Bohol mayor killed in almost a year after Gisela Bendong Boniel in June 2017 when her husband and provincial board member Rey Boniel allegedly threw her body into the water in June 2017.
