Kenya Prisons to boost avocado trade

[Stanley Ongwae, Standard]The Kenya Prisons Service has embarked on a programme to boost the production of avocado through distribution of seedlings. Director of Kenya Prison Farms Patrick Kariri on Friday said their focus was on the Hass variety with an eye on the export market. "We have 133 prisons out of which 80 are involved in agricultural production. Eighteen of them were set aside as centres of excellence to promote the Big Four Agenda that includes bid to attain food security," said Kariri, who spoke at Nyamira GK Prisons where he was accompanied by County Commissioner Amos Mariba.
