Kengen blames monkey for Tuesday's nationwide blackout

Kengen has blamed a monkey for the Tuesday's nationwide blackout. In a statement, the power generating company said that the monkey fell on one of the transformers at the Gitaru Power Station thus tripping it. This caused other machines at the power station to trip. Gitaru power station is the biggest in terms of installed capacity and can serve a fifth of the country's capacity from its 225 MW peak power generation. An overload resulting in a loss of more than 180MW from the plant triggered the national blackout.
