The leader of the Kelowna RCMP has retired in the middle of an independent investigation into his detachment. Rob Vermeulen said Romanchuk had decided to retire, but offered no details. It comes while the Abbotsford Police Department continues to investigate a series of allegations against the Kelowna RCMP - an investigation that began at the same time Romanchuk took a leave of absence. "I don't want to get into the specifics of it, but I will confirm that our investigators are involved...and that it's a series of allegations," said Cst. Romanchuk became Kelowna's superintendent in 2013, following a number of years commanding detachments in the Kootenays.
